The Sun through a home-cooked Baader solar filter. : The Netherlands Freefall Strawberry. : Artistic, The Netherlands Iglesia de Merced in Granada. : Nicaragua My very first glimpse of the so-called Transit of Venus in June 2012. About half an hour after sunrise the sun suddenly majestically appeared from the thick clouds over Southern England and I could witness the final stages of Venus transiting directly between the sun and earth. These transits are among the rarest predictable astronomical phenomena and generally occur every 243 years. They occur in pairs, eight years apart, and the next pair will take place in 2117 and 2125! Last glimpse - Clouds partially obscure the sun during the final stages of the Transit of Venus in June 2012.
My first attempt at photographing the night sky. I shot this approximately 2.5 hour exposure near Old Idsworth in Hampshire, UK. With the little program Startrails I stacked 23 360-sec exposures. It is easy to see that the stars get fainter as time passes which was caused by dew on my lens. The remaining images were completely useless because of this. Unfortunately I didn't notice this, in the pitch dark night, until I came home. Next time I'll try sticking 1 or 2 chemical handwarmers on my lens. My first attempt at photographing the night sky. This is an artist impression of the so-called Baily's Beads at Second Contact or C2. This is a combination of 9 images, taken at 1 second intervals, right before the moon eclipsed the sun entirely. : China Who needs a high-tech gym? The Light! Benefits of having a hole in your roof.
Amman by night. I took this image after midnight and there was, probably because of Ramadan, still lots of activity and heavy traffic.
